About the Founder

Hailing from an orthodox Hindu family in Aladipatty, Tirunelveli district, Aladi Aruna, our founder, was a free thinker from his school days. He completed his Law degree at Madras Law College and earned an M.A. from Madurai Kamaraj University.

During the leadership of Dr. Anna, the students’ wing of the DMK served as a well-maintained nursery to nourish and groom young minds for the parent organisation. Aladi Aruna was one of the most outstanding products of that nursery.

His active participation in agitations launched by the DMK — including undergoing a four-month imprisonment — reflects his unwavering commitment to the party’s principles. He proved second to none in facing trials and tribulations for the cause.

He served as a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly (1967–1975), a Member of the Lok Sabha (1977–1980), and a Member of the Rajya Sabha (1983–1989). His service, talent, and political acumen have been acknowledged by all right-thinking individuals.

His dissent notes on the Joint Parliamentary Committee report on the BOFORS scam dealt a major blow to the Rajiv Gandhi government. He was later included in the cabinet by Kalaignar Dr. M. Karunanidhi after being elected for the third time from his home constituency, Alankulam.

Aladi Aruna toured almost all developed countries, except Japan and China. He has authored five books in Tamil and three books in English.

But we seek more — not like Oliver Twist to fill our stomachs — but to fill the reservoir of our minds.
